![]() Flowserve Gestra Steam Installation Wins National Energy Savings Award Louisville, KY March 9, 2003: Flowserve Gestra, supplier of steam trap solutions for the flow control industry, and member company of Flowserve Corporation (NYSE:FLS), announces that its installation of MK Series Zero Steam Loss Traps in a Midwestern petroleum additives company has received the Energy Efficiency Program Award from the American Chemistry Council. As part of its ongoing efforts to improve the environment and the economy, the American Chemistry Council (ACC) honored 10 companies for energy efficiency improvements made in 2001. According to a press release issued by Greg Lebedev, President and CEO of the ACC, the business of chemistry is energy intensive, relying on petrochemical energy to power its operations and as a raw material to manufacture many of its products. Energy costs can be as high as 85 per cent of total production costs for some products. "The Energy Efficiency Awards publicly recognize efficiency efforts of our members that not only reduce greenhouse gases and other emissions, but also add appreciably to each company's bottom line," said Lebedev.
By switching to the Flowserve Gestra steam trap technology, the petroleum additives plant has seen a significant reduction in energy costs during the last 18 months with savings of over 718,000 lbs of steam, which equates to a total cost savings of $630,000. "News of the Energy Efficiency Program Award validates Flowserve's ongoing efforts to offer its customers cost-effective and energy-saving flow control products and services such as the MK Series Steam Trap," said John Jacko, vice-president of marketing and customer management for Flowserve. |
